Glitch Mob - We Can Make The World Stop print by Mauro Balcazar

I was listening to Pandora and came across a new track by the Glitch Mob and became really obsessed with it for a few days. Anyone that knows me knows that I'm in love with all things robots. Listening to the lyrics i quickly painted this image image in my head and really wanted to express it on paper, digital paper. Here's the lyric.

"Stand Still, Pause Clocks, We Can Make The world Stop!"

I couldn't stop repeating the lyrics and found myself sketching on a napkin something randomly. What evolved from that doodle is the following Rebellious Robot drawing that I hope you enjoy. and yes, the Binary code above does mean the lyric. :-) #BONUS

Here the image larger to check out :-)

It's Turbo Time!! Turboman art and shirts by Mauro

It's Christmas time around here. thought I'd post this up, can't remember if i did years ago. One of my favorite films of the holidays has always been "Jingle all the way". I drew this as an homage to the film i grew up watching and to the character of Turboman!! It reminds me of my parents going crazy to always try and get me that 1 coveted action figure for xmas. (they had a crazy adventure trying to get me power rangers over a decade ago, makes me love this movie even more :-))

Here is some art i did and a t shirt design. you can still buy it for cheap on my store.
happy holidays.

Shirts and stickers :-)

The New Muppet movie! The Muppets as Ninja Turtles by Mauro!!

hehe

Here's my tribute piece to the Muppets!! I really love everything Henson and if it weren't for Jim Henson's contribution to the Ninja Turtle live action film, I'd never have a favorite film! lol, The Muppets were a staple for me growing up and I wanted to pay tribute to Mr Henson and his Legacy in my own tacky way. :-) I thought, Ninja Turtle Muppets!!! hehe hope you guys dig it. I tried to make it look like the TMNT movie poster :-).

I'm starting to like these Friday PLanet-Pulp inspired drawings. There currently having a "time" related art run and I thought about Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.(Delorean came 2nd in my thought process for some weird reason lol). Tried to draw this as close to spec as the actual prop in the film. Hope you guys like it and please be Excellent to each other!! - Mauro

Snow White's Evil Queen by Mauro Balcazar

And here we have our second entry in the bad girls club lol. Here is the Evil Queen, the only other person I know who can give Maleficent a good run for her crazy! I hope guys like this one, had some more fun painting her and changing the colors around. For some reason I can't help but think of Makeup when I think of this character and I hope i made her colorful enough. :-)

Maleficent Painted by Mauro Balcazar

Finally had some free time to sit down and try to paint this drawing i did last month. Played around a lot with photoshop layering trickery (fitting for this character right?).
I hope you guys dig it, I think the colors make her look a little more sinister then I intended, but I didn't want to use red, instead playing with her skin tone a bit.

enjoy! - Mauro

Never Give Up, Never Surrender Damn it!

This is a fun one i drew the other night. It is for a submission to the great blog "planet pulp! (http://www.planet-pulp.com/). Check it out for awesome pop culture art from around the globe! This is for a Stan Winston inspired run and I couldn't think of a more fun one to draw than Galaxy quest!

I tried to capture all the best personalities of the characters that I remembered. They were all so great in this film, and I just laughed drawing these guys at their worst? lol i hope you guys like it!

I hate zombies

Halloween so close you can smell it!!

The only thing that scares me are zombies. nothing fancy, but they terrify me. I have told all my friends that should they turn into a zombie, I would end them in seconds. LOL, here's a quick little drawing of one these little bastards in the digital flesh.
they always have the weird stare. yikes!

Beware...The Gray Ghost!!! Batman Animated

I drew this a while ago, always loved the Batman Animated Series growing up. One episode in particular comes to mind, where Batman meets one of his childhood idols, the Gray Ghost. In a scene, the camera pans to his collection of memorabilia and you can see a poster of "The Gray Ghost" on the wall.

I loved the idea of Batman having his own nerdy collection of the Gray ghost, someone he admired in his childhood, inside the batcave. It's only seen for i think 2 seconds, but it was very well done in the animation and I thought it would be neat to have as a print to give Mr Conroy as a present. Im going to bring some to NYCC and hopefully get Kevin Conroy sign it for me. Hope you all like it.

* done in digital watercolors to give it that animated style painted look. :-)

EDIT*

Happy to report I was able to give one of these prints to Kevin Conroy to keep at a panel at the NYCC. I was so glad he mentioned the character earlier in the panel, and he seemed surprised to see the drawing after the panel of the gray ghost. really really nice guy. I was happy so much fun and I was able to get my personal copy signed.

It's ShowTime!!!...Beetlejuice Poster!!!

Tada.....

lol, Here is my latest "maurolyzed" (see, i made that word totally up) style poster for the Tim Burton Film, Beetlejuice. I borrowed elements very much in the vein of my last Dragon style poster. I recently re-watched this film on blu ray and loved the memories i had as a kid watching this. I wanted to try my hand at a new edgy poster for it, and here she is.

I really wanted to capture my favorite moments and characters from the film and hope i did it justice. For those asking, I spelled the name like that on purposed since that's how it was spelled in the film. Remember, don't say his name!!!

*in the film, it was misspelled on purpose i think, so you couldn't really pronounce his real name correctly. GENIUS!!

Want it on a shirt or a sticker?? check it out here :-) thanks!!

I will have a few of these available as prints at comic con.

Agliarept, Part Time Ghost Hunter,, Full Time Teen

Hi,

Got excited over at www.redbubble.com when they announced their New York Comic Con contest this year. Seems there looking for a cool superhero concept and luckily I've been working on mine for some time now. This would be as good as any time to show it off in a nice laid out comic panel approach. Here's my submission:

http://www.redbubble.com/mybubble/clothing/7786650-agliarept-in-how-to-fight-the-dead/edit

Agliarept in: How to fight the dead!

Living your life as a teenage boy trapped in an ancient alchemist's armor can be tough. One minute your on death's bed suffering from a rare disease and the next you wake up in the 21st century inside some archaic robot contraption. Life's funny that way ain't it?

Together with his new friend Francis, a haunting spirit who's been trapped inside a lab for 100 years, Sam, who's father use to work in said lab, chase and capture evil spirits who just so happen to want Agy's nifty suit and will stop at nothing to get it.

on this submission I thought it be good to provide some tips on what you'd need when approaching and fighting the dead..although somethings are easier said then done :-).

This is a comic i am writing as a short story novel with pictures? It's a dark comedy as our hero doesn't really want his new gig and has a tough time coming to terms with his new body and powers.

Men in Black Drawing #5 The Worm Guys love the JAVA!!!

hehe

I've always loved the animated series of the Men in Black. the stories, designs, and animation are pretty top notch and carried the same tones of the movies. However, a huge improvement was made on the worms, and there personalities have stayed with me when doodling for ages. Here they are in there animated form as they appeared on the show years ago. These guys are addicted to the Java!! gotta have it!!!!

Men In Black drawing #3 First Contact

Always loved the photos shown briefly in MIB 1. the ones with agent K handing the aliens flowers. wondered what it would be like seen through the lens of Ray Bans. liberties have been taken and thought I'd play around with a wash of colors. very flat and dull colors to make it look a little retro? hope you like. :-)

Men In Black drawing #2 Steve Jobs is an Arquillian.

This one is one of my favorites. might be a recurring theme through out this little art project. We all sorta kinda knew Steve Jobs was bringing us some cool gadgets and now we know why. Arquillian technology for the win!!

Dick Tracy Mr Deco

fun little art piece i did last night. I always love this old style pulp detective, i even miss this type of hero in main stream media. almost like an icon of a bye gone era when heroes didn't wear capes but fedoras and were tough as nails.

Presenting, Berry Gordy's "The Last Dragon" Movie Poster by Mauro Balcazar

It's with great pleasure and sleepiness that I present my contribution to a piece of Cinematic awesomeness that is "The Last Dragon" movie. Without a doubt a true classic and all time favorite of mine. I lovingly created this homage to the movie in the same style of posters that are used by Mondo and drawn by the awesome Tyler Stout. His art really inspires me and I hope this piece serves an homage to him as well.

I created this poster with the hopes of handing them out at a screening of the Last Dragon I want to plan in a theater ssometime in July for my birthday. I've always wanted an art poster for this film and what better time then for my birthday. I've tried to incorporate all my favorite characters, settings, and tones of the film. I have no plans to print or sell any of these but if there is a demand? It's possible :-).

I hope you all enjoy this poster as much as i had drawing it. now go and GLOW!!!!!!

Last Dragon rough layout before inks etc etc :-)

Haven't updated in a few days but i'm closer then I have been in a while with getting this poster ready for some color/ink. I like the overall tone of it, it's only missing the custom logo placement i have made for it and the border and some extra surprises i need to illustrate. hopefully when its all done people will actually want one for themselves! :-)

More Last Dragon Pencils!!!!! (getting closer!!

Pencils getting a lot tighter and cleaner I think. I've gotten a lot more focus on what my layout is looking like and more faces will be popping up. Im just worried I won't be able to cram everyone I want in there. Here are some more familiar faces from the film! Enjoy :-) !

Update #6 Laura, Leroy and Johnny Yu!!

Penciled away last night. I like keeping the pace on a nightly basis of doing these until i get losts of and lots of em. I really admire Tyler Stout and want to make my own poster in his style as an homage of sorts. I just love the amount of detail he puts in his work. Enjoy! :-)

Leroy!!!!!!! #5..and #6

This one might change. but here's my pencils for Leroy which will be the focus point of the poster. i think i might need a new position/stance to draw up. not easy getting good Taimak ref images for some reason. but here it is :-)

Beginning my Last Dragon poster

I've contemplated doing this for a very long time now. Berry Gordy's the Last Dragon has always been one of my favorite movies and I've often felt that it never got the awesome poster it deserved. When the film came out, it used a very weird and confusing poster that till this day urks me.

Well hopefully, with a little luck and time, I will be creating my own poster in the vain of the classic kung fu movies of the 70's etc. Here's my first layout piece and the original monstrosity used for the film below.

( I can't tell if this movie takes place in space or a record store) lol.

Comics for Japan!

CLICK for LARGE view ^

In lieu of the horrible events in Japan i started donating to these organizations to help out those in Japan. And here is a comic I drew which will appear in Comics for Japan to raise awareness. Thanks for reading and please use the links below if you wish to give to those in need.

and please don't send yourself to Japan in a box, that only works in comics and cartoons! :-)
